Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs for Donors

Is A Team Is A Family Foundation a registered non-profit, and is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. A Team is a Family Foundation is a registered non-profit corporation in the state of Kansas and an officially recognized 501(c)(3) public charity.

This means all donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Your gift goes directly toward our mission of getting children in our community off the sidelines and into the game.

Where does my money go? How much of my donation directly supports a child?

Your donation goes directly toward removing the barriers that keep children in foster care off the field. The vast majority of every dollar is used to cover program costs like league fees, uniforms, equipment, and transportation.

As a new and growing foundation, a small, necessary portion of donations is also used for essential operational costs, like website hosting and insurance. This lean operational model ensures that we can grow our mission responsibly and help even more children find their family on a team in the years to come.

Who exactly do you help?

A Team Is A Family Foundation provides support for children currently in the Kansas foster care system who reside in the greater Topeka area. To promote inclusiveness and strengthen the entire family unit, our assistance is also available for the caregivers' other children (biological or adopted) living in the same home.

Besides money, do you accept donations of sports equipment?

Thank you for your interest in donating equipment! While we cannot accept unsolicited equipment donations at this time due to storage and logistical constraints, we will hold specific equipment drives throughout the year. Please follow our social media pages or sign up for our newsletter to be notified of our next drive. We typically look for new or very gently used items to ensure every child receives safe, high-quality gear.

What if I can't donate money? How else can I help?

We believe that everyone has something to contribute to our team, and financial donations are just one way to make a difference. You can make a profound impact by giving your time as a volunteer to coach, mentor, or help at our events. We also encourage you to explore becoming a community partner if you are part of a local business, league, or another non-profit. Please visit our Get Involved page to see all the ways you can be a Game Changer for a child in our community.

What are the requirements to volunteer, especially for roles working with children?

The safety and well-being of the children we serve is our number one priority. For this reason, all volunteers who will have direct contact with children in roles such as coaching, assistant coaching, or mentorship are required to pass a formal background check. The most important qualification for any role is a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to helping our kids succeed. Let us know how you would like to contribute here.

I don't have a background in coaching. Are there other ways for me to volunteer?

Absolutely! It takes a whole team to support our mission, and many vital roles are off the field. As a new foundation, we will be posting specific volunteer opportunities as they become available. The best way to stay informed is to sign up for our newsletter. You'll be the first to know when we need passionate individuals to join the team.
